The Routes app is designed to help you record, evidence, and showcase your learning and career journey. It allows you to create a digital career passport to demonstrate your skills and experience to potential employers.

How do I record my journey in the app?

You can add content to the app in the form of video, audio, pictures, files, and text. The app provides an intuitive interface that guides you through the process, and you don’t need any prior knowledge of CV writing.

What kind of content can I add to the app?

You can add various types of content, such as videos, audio recordings, images, files, and text. This allows you to showcase your learning and achievements in a rich and engaging way. The type of data uploaded will differ depending on the user, but it is typically limited to academic achievements, training records, professional goals, and personal development.

How will the app help me create a CV?

By adding your own information, Routes will dynamically build you an interactive and rich infographic CV that can be viewed and shared at the touch of a button. The app guides you through the process.

Can I share my digital career passport with others?

Yes, you can securely share your digital career passport with potential employers and others.

Is my data secure on the app?

Routes has achieved Cyber Essentials Accreditation, which means the app adheres to widely recognised cybersecurity standards. Data is encrypted both at rest and in transit. All data, including archives and backups, is stored on a cloud-based platform hosted by Microsoft Azure in the UK, equipped with robust security measures.

Will the app help me present myself for specific career pathways?

Yes, the intention is for the Routes developers to include AI prompts to help users present themselves for specific career pathways.

Can I access my data?

Yes, you are able to extract a copy of the data that is held about you directly from the app in the form of your Digital CV.

Can I update my data?

Yes, you can update your personal data using the app.

What if I want to stop using the app?

If you no longer wish for your data to be processed you can request that it be deleted.

Who can see my profile?

Your school or club will monitor your account from the Routes management portal to make sure the content you upload is appropriate. Mentors/tutors will also have access to make sure the content that you upload is suitable for your digital CV and to keep you safe online.

What should I do if I see something online that makes me feel uncomfortable?

You should speak to your tutor or another responsible adult if you see anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable, and you can also contact Routes directly through the chat box on the app.

Will there be any marketing on the app?

No, there is no marketing activity present on the app or supporting processes.

For Mentors (Learning Providers & Employment Providers)

What is the purpose of the Routes app for educators?

Routes helps to connect educators and learners, and it makes it easy to capture and demonstrate progress. It also allows learning providers to create and manage bespoke courses, set grading criteria, and arrange courses in a hierarchy. The app can be tailored to the individual to help with their journey.

How can I create courses on the app?

As a learning provider, you can create and manage bespoke courses and assign them to individuals. You can also set specific grading criteria for courses.

Can I tailor course content to individual users?

Yes, you can provide a unique experience for each user by assigning bespoke courses.

How can I provide feedback to learners?

The app has a mentor messaging centre where users can request and receive mentor comments on their learning, achievements, and progress, as well as provide references.

How can I use the app to view potential candidates?

Routes allows you to understand potential employees by providing lots of information in a real-time interactive online platform, including video, image, text, and audio.

Can I share potential employee profiles with my colleagues?

Yes, you can share potential employee details in real-time with your colleagues anywhere in the world, which accelerates the decision-making process.

What is CV Technologies Ltd’s role in processing user data?

CV Technologies Ltd acts as a Data Processor for the personal data they process on behalf of clients, and a Data Controller for user registration data

How does CV Technologies Ltd ensure compliance with GDPR?

CV Technologies Ltd is registered with the ICO (ref: ZB470508) and complies with UK-GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. They have a Data Protection Policy that outlines their compliance. A Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) has been conducted to assess data processing risks.

Where is user data stored?

All data is stored on a cloud-based platform hosted by Microsoft Azure in the UK.

How is user data secured?

How do I handle individual rights requests?

You should inform the DPO or senior management as soon as possible if you receive a request relating to individual rights. You must not respond to requests or provide information without approval. As a data controller you must respond to requests within one calendar month and will not typically charge a fee.

For Parents of Under 13 App Users

What is the Routes App and how will my child use it?

The Routes app allows children to record their academic and personal achievements, creating a ‘Digital CV’ of their progress. Your child will be able to add things they work on, such as photos, videos, classroom work and voice recordings to their Routes Profile.

What data is collected about my child?

To set up your child’s account, their name and email address are needed. This information is provided by their school or club. Content uploaded to the app is typically limited to academic achievements, training records, professional goals, personal development, references and correspondence.

Is the app safe for my child?

The app does not contain marketing or links to third-party websites or social media. The company complies with the ICO Children’s Code, and they put the best interests of the child and age-appropriateness at the center of their processing. The school or club will monitor the content and use of the app to ensure children are safe online.

Can my child’s data be shared with anyone?

Your child’s personal data is routinely shared with Microsoft Azure, who are used for cloud hosting and storage. They will only share your child’s data with any other third parties if it is required to meet a legal obligation. Data is not shared outside of the UK.

How is my child’s data secured?

Data is stored securely on the Microsoft Azure platform and is fully encrypted at rest and in transit. Access is limited to a select few staff members who have undergone security training and are subject to confidentiality agreements.

How long is my child’s data kept?

Your child’s data is processed while their account is active and will be securely deleted after a period of 2 years if their school or club cancels their subscription, their account is inactive for 2 years, or you withdraw your consent.

What are my rights regarding my child’s data?

As a parent, you have the right to be informed about how and why your child’s data is processed. You have the right of access to your child’s data. You can ask for rectification if the data is incorrect, and request erasure of data. You can ask to restrict processing if you are unhappy with how the data is processed. You have the right to complain to the ICO.

How do I give consent for my child to use the app?

Your child’s school or club will seek your consent before providing access to the app.

Can I withdraw my consent?

Yes, consent can be withdrawn at any time by contacting your child’s school or club.

Can I view my child’s profile?

Yes, your parent or guardian will have access to the app to check on your progress.

What if I have questions about my child’s privacy?

You can find the latest version of the privacy notice on the website. You can contact their support team if you have any further questions.
